Safety Tips
By controlling the type and amount of UV light you receive at California Tan, theres no doubt that this is the best place to acquire a tan. But there are still some precautions you need to take.
Your lips, for example, do not produce melanin to protect them from over exposure. Therefore, you should protect them with lip balm or sunscreen.
If you plan to tan in the nude, cover previously unexposed areas for the majority of your tanning session for the first few visits. Gradually increase exposure to these areas until they catch up with the rest of your body.
If you are taking any medications, please advise one of our tanning technicians. Some medications can cause reactions with UV light.
Most importantly, protect your eyes! Simply closing them while you tan is not adequate protection against the effects of UV light. The eye protection we offer blocks 99.9% of UVB light and 99% of UVA light.
Moist skin tans more efficiently and effectively. Dry skin burns. You should never tan without indoor tanning lotion, just like you should never go outside without sunscreen. Specially formulated indoor tanning lotions will help your tan last longer by retaining ultraviolet induced melanin longer. Moisturizers are great for the skin but not meant for indoor or outdoor tanning, using them in the tanning beds could damage your skin.
Vacations can cost thousands of dollars. Dont spend the first day getting a sunburn and the rest of your days indoors. We offer a range of sunscreens from SPF 4 to SPF 20.
TAN RESPONSIBLY, MODERATION IS THE KEY! DONT EVER SUNBURN!
